Letters from Mike

occasional missives from Mike about what he’s doing at the moment

This week

Life

Another crazy week in which Jo and I barely see each other, and barely have time to figure out logistics for each day as it lands upon us. Still, we seem to be getting through it without too many major SNAFUs.

Last night we managed a cheeky mid-week date night — Thai in our old Heidelberg haunt and then a show at HTC. The restaurant has changed a bit in the last 20 years, in decor and staff, but still delicious no-fuss Thai food.

Training

Well I did manage to back fill last week and hit my 12 hour target. And now I’m very sluggish again this week, and have only managed two of the 16 I need by Sunday… and it’s already Wednesday. :-/ I guess I have a big few days coming up! But as a recreational cyclist it’s always a juggling act between committing to training targets and still being able to function at home and work. And as much as I want to achieve goals like “sub-10 hour 3Peaks”, I really have to put family and work first.

Work

Speaking of which… not a lot to report on the work front. In Friday’s architecture group meeting I formally announced that CP would be taking over, and that it would be recast as a “Tech Lead Guild”. No one revolted, so I guess that’s good. I have been assigned another mentee, which is very exciting. She is a product manager with a background outside tech, so it’s going to be a great learning experience for both of us. And the Events project continues apace.

But now, Hack Day(s)! To the document mines for me…
